"Invest in your realtor first, then in the bricks."
Living in Amsterdam? You could easily come up with a list of reasons why you might not want to: high prices per square meter, crowded streets, and packed trams. Yet there are plenty of reasons why living in Amsterdam can be great. Outside the tourist-heavy areas, you’ll find lively neighborhoods with a mix of young families and older residents, plenty of amenities within walking distance, and a vibrant cultural scene. Professor Tom Berkhout explores this in detail in this article published by the MVA (in Dutch).
Buying property in Amsterdam can be financially challenging, as prices have been rising for years. A good realtor can make all the difference. As Mr. Berkhout says in the article:
"If you want to make a good purchase, an experienced realtor is essential. Someone with up-to-date market knowledge, understanding of leasehold, permits, and the possibilities (and limitations) of a property. Someone who listens to your wishes but also dares to give contrarian advice and warns against unrealistic expectations. Someone who sometimes says: ‘You should really take a look at this, it could be perfect for you.’ A realtor who dots the i’s and has a network of experts around them. In our case, that was Frank Hurkens from Ameo."
Frank personally helped Mr. Berkhout find a great home in Amsterdam.
